He discusses his use of the HOMA2 calculator and his assessment matrix to identify 5 dysfunctions of blood sugar regulation and why he could not assess these without HOMA2.
Dr. Brad Rachman is an experienced health professional currently serving as Medical Director of the Rachman Clinic in Black Mountain, North Carolina. He also teaches restorative yoga therapy at Black Mountain Yoga and has dedicated most of his professional career to treating chronic debilitating illnesses.
Tune into this episode as Dr. Rachman walks us through the process of taking someone through the diagnostic journey, explains why we're seeing such a big epidemic in blood sugar dysregulation, what our fasting glucose is really telling us, as well as how he uses the invaluable HOMA2 calculator values and other blood biomarkers to pinpoint exactly where his patients are on the diabetes journey.

Optimal The Podcast Episode 4 - All About Vitamin B12 and Vitamin B12 Deficiency
Tuesday Nov 24, 2020
Tuesday Nov 24, 2020
Vitamin B12 or cobalamin is an essential micronutrient required for proper red blood cell production, DNA formation, nerve function, and metabolism
Insufficiency of this vitamin can have wide-reaching neurological and hematological consequences for your body. Our bodies cannot produce B12; thus, we get it mainly from animal-based food and other vegetarian options. To maintain optimal health and quality of life, you need to follow the recommended daily intake of Vitamin B12.
A clear understanding of B12 and B12 deficiency can help you attain optimal health.
Join Dr. Dicken Weatherby and Beth Ellen DiLuglio as they share their in-depth review about what vitamin B12 is and why it's crucial for our body. We have researched the biomarkers to assess B12 deficiency, as well as how we can use some of this blood chemistry and signs and symptoms to assess for deficiency! We talk about choosing the right type of B12 and the dosage of food sources.
Are your patients B12 deficient? Find out by listening to this episode!
Episode Highlights:
- (01:53) The biochemistry of vitamin B12
- (04:21) Vitamin B12's physiology in the body
- (10:53) The dysfunctions and diseases associated with vitamin B12 deficiency
- (12:05) How can one become vitamin B12 deficient
- (12:18) Do Vegetarians have B12 deficiency
- (19:55) Signs and symptoms to assess a deficiency
- (37:35) The role of B12 deficiency with oxidative stress
- (39:20) Talks about her research and findings on the neuropsychological consequences of B12

Thursday Oct 22, 2020
Insulin is a very important hormone in the body. When the cells in your body ignore the signal to transport glucose, the body's main source of fuel, from the bloodstream into muscle and other tissues, you're experiencing insulin resistance, the driving factor that leads to type 2 diabetes, gestational diabetes, and prediabetes.
The great news is that you can actually reverse the effects of insulin resistance!
Join Dr. Dicken Weatherby and Beth Ellen DiLugio as they explain what insulin resistance is and why it is a concern. They'll also dive deep into the biology and physiology of insulin, the signs and symptoms of insulin resistance, and the individual biomarkers. They will also provide the steps you'll need to reverse its effects!
Diabetes and insulin resistance are completely preventable! Make sure you tune into today's episode to find out how!
Episode Highlights:
- The biochemistry and physiology of insulin
- The causative factors that can get down the road to diabetes and insulin resistance
- What is insulin resistance? Why is it a concern?
- What happens when there is too much insulin in your body?
- The individual biomarkers for assessing insulin resistance
- The relationship between fasting insulin and insulin resistance
- What is alpha hydroxybutyrate?
- HOMA2 and QUICKI
- What can you do to reverse the effects of insulin resistance
